Chapter 16

Tracker watched silently, waiting until Rex had entered. "It is a term of endearment. In my culture, an Anare is something the Gods and Goddesses send to us. A blessing, something few of us are able to find. Most of the time, we 'settle for less', find someone we are compatible with. To have found you, my Anare, that is a miracle I will cherish for all time."

Rex had stopped with his back to Tracker, just over the threshold. "Why do you say that? What makes you think I am your blessing? That I am your anything?"

Tracker shook his head. Still, Rex did not believe him. But that was ok. He could be just as stubborn, just as hard headed. And he would not give up on the man. "You are mine, Rex. And that is one of the things we need to discuss. However, I know this because there are signs. For years I have dreamt of you."

Tracker moved forward and wrapped Rex in his arms, bending to whisper into the shorter man's ear. "They tormented me, day and night. I would drive myself to the breaking point, exhaustion riding my every breath, just to stop the dreams of you two. But they never stopped."

Tracker smiled as he felt the stuttering of Rex's breath, the increasing beat of his heart.

"You said 'signs', plural. I'm guessing the dreams aren't the only things?" Rex spoke softly, as Tracker stepped up behind him. He loved the way Rex's body quivered as he slid his hand up from the small of Rex's back, over his shoulder, and let it finally rest lightly over Rex's heart. He let his left arm snake around slowly, tightening it to pull Rex back into his chest.

"Yes, I did. And there are. As soon as I took in your scent, when I was trapped in the shuttle, I knew you were mine. My skin came alive, grazed by a thousand feathery touches." Tracker bent just a little bit further, letting his lips nuzzle and slide against that tempting flesh. "I was already weakened from the wounds, but you? You stole the rest of my strength little by little. Had you not taken in my Fazeem, which completed the bond, I would have perished."

Tracker was taking a risk, he knew it and yet he couldn’t stop the words from freeing themselves. The way Rex tensed in his arms had him worried. Until, that is, Rex reached one arm over his shoulder and cupped the back of his head.

"Finished the bond? What bond?" Rex was unable to speak in more than a tormented whisper.

Tracker leaned back; this was the hard part, pressing his head into that wonderfully distracting touch. "Yes. I tried to stop you. I wanted to warn you before you swallowed, but everything you did to me stole my voice. And when I tried to stop, you would not have it. I will not take it back, even if I could. I am yours, now and forever."
