“In family life, love is the oil that eases friction, the cement that binds closer together and the music that brings harmony.” Eva Burrows

After spending eleven days in the hospital, Hezekiah was released. Instead of going to Lion’s Gate, he went to Apartment 3D.

Rianna had convinced him that she would be able to take better care of him at her apartment, and of course she didn’t have access to enter in and out of Lion’s Gate. That was one of the beefs she had with Hezekiah. He still hadn’t given her a key nor his access code to get into the private community. They had argued about it on more than one occasion, but Hezekiah wouldn’t budge.

“I’ll give you all of that in due time. When you are my First Lady,” he had assured her.

Rianna took time off from work so she could take care of him. She was not about to leave him in the hands of some of those too willing church ladies who volunteered to help her. No, she was going to be the one to ‘lay hands’ on her man, her and only her.

If she needed more time off work after the designated period she’d put in for, she would go on leave without pay. She didn’t qualify for FMLA since she and Hezekiah weren’t legally married nor was he considered next of kin, but she didn’t care. If they refused to let her off to see about her man, her future husband, then she would quit. But for now she would cross that bridge when, and if, she got to it.

For the next several Sundays, Stiles led Sunday and mid-week services while Hezekiah was on the mend.

“God is a good God,” preached Stiles. “He saved my brother’s life, the senior pastor of this great church. But God not only saved Pastor McCoy, he saved the life of our dear sweet minister of music, Sista Rianna Jamison.” Stiles looked around and made eye contact with Rianna. “Only the good Lord knows what might have happened had she not shown up. Oh, yes, God is merciful.”

Stiles balanced himself on the tips of his black loafers, shook his head from side to side, and raised his Bible up in the air. “God dispenses His angels over and around us twenty-four seven. We don’t have any idea just how much He cares for His children.”

“Amen!” Rianna said from the choir stand.

At the end of his twenty-three minute sermon, New Holy Rock Ministries was full of the spirit. A few people shouted and praised God. Several more people walked down the aisle to join the church. That was always a blessing in the eyes of Stiles.

Stiles welcomed the people to come forward. He wanted to shout himself when he watched Josie and Pastor saunter down the aisle. This was the second Sunday they’d attended New Holy Rock Ministries.

Stiles didn’t know for sure how his brother was going to react when he returned to New Holy Rock and saw that Pastor and Josie had joined.
