A week and a half passed, and Leilani and I spent most of our free time together as we continued getting to know each other. After several invitations, she finally accepted one to spend the night at my house. Her excuse was she didn’t want to blur the lines of our relationship since we hadn’t put a title on what we were doing just yet. If it were up to me, we would’ve made it official after our first night together. However, I agreed to go at her pace, so I had no choice but to be patient.

“This is nice,” she complimented after I gave her a tour of my place.

“Thank you. My mother and sister decorated.”

“They did a great job.”

“Come to the kitchen. I cooked for you.”

“Really? I’m impressed. With all the time you’ve spent at my place, I haven’t even cooked for you yet.”

“It’s cool. You’re on your feet all day, so I can imagine you rarely feel like cooking.”

“True. What’d you make?”

“Nothing special. Baked chicken with asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes.”

“That sounds good. Let’s eat.”

She washed her hands at the kitchen sink before turning to face me.

“Let me fix your plate since you cooked.”

“No, I got it, baby. Have a seat.”

Leilani sat at the table and waited for me to serve her. After I set her plate in front of her, she waited for me to make my plate and sit down. We then held hands as I blessed the food.

“This is good, Zy,” she offered after a couple of bites.

“Thank you. I can do a little something in the kitchen. I’m no chef, though.”

“Neither am I, but I can cook. My mother made sure both my brother and I knew our way around the kitchen before we left home.”

“Mine, too.”

“You never did tell me how the outing at the cigar lounge went,” she reminded me.

“It was nice. Ray ended up joining us, and Emmet invited us to Tampa. I may take him up on his offer during the winter.”

She frowned. “Don’t go out there and let Emmet get you in trouble. I don’t want to have to hurt you.”

I raised my brow before saying, “Oh, you think we’ll still be together come winter?”

“Huh? Oh, I, umm…”

“Don’t get tongue-tied now. You already spoke it.”

“Whatever. I’m glad y’all enjoyed yourselves. I’m going to breakfast with Emmet tomorrow morning before his flight. He says I owe him because he was nice to you.”

I chuckled. I couldn’t wait for Leilani to meet my family. It was crazy how much her relationship with Emmet paralleled mine with my sister, Nina.

We conversed while finishing our food, and when we were finished, she helped me clean up the kitchen. After we showered, she put on one of my T-shirts, and I donned a pair of boxer briefs. Once in bed, Leilani cuddled up next to me, and I cued up Netflix in search of something to watch.

I honestly didn’t feel like watching a movie. We hadn’t had sex since the first time, and I’d been fiending to experience her again.
