Jayla

Since I returned home, things were really on the up and up, so I hadn’t bothered Q since I saw him at Moochie’s house. To my surprise, he hadn’t hit me either. I was cool with it though. It looked like it was time to really give this thing a real shot and stop creeping behind Doe’s back. The only reason I was even considering sticking around after the strip club drama was because I had fucked up too.

At Doe’s request, Tammy, Moochie, and my mother were out dress shopping, and I was actually excited about our wedding again. The dress that I had my eyes on was still available and I stood in front of the floor length mirror in the dressing room; and even I had to admit, I was stunning it this dress. The long sleeved lace mermaid gown was everything. The moment I stepped out of the dressing room, all conversation ceased as everyone took in my appearance.

“This is the one for sure,” my mother broke the silence and walked in my direction with tear filled eyes. “My baby is getting married.”

“Awwwww stop that sappy stuff Ms. Jennifer,” Moochie replied.

“You guys like it?” I questioned.

“We love it!” Tammy added in.

“It looks great,” Maria, the designer, added in. “We will just need to make a few minor alterations.”

“I’m going to take it,” I announced.

“They have a few coral dresses that we like too. As soon as you’re out of that dress, we can try them on for you,” Tammy informed me.

After Maria pinned the dress up for alterations, we switched positions. Tammy and Moochie went to try on the dresses they picked out while I helped my mother browse for a dress as well. Once Tammy and Moochie exited the dressing room, I knew those were the dresses for them. After finding the perfect dresses, we headed back to my mother’s house, and she made us a nice dinner.

“So what did you and Jayla get into that had her so busy she couldn’t even call her mother last weekend?” I heard my mother question Tammy while I was in the kitchen.

“Huh? We weren’t together last weekend,” Tammy responded.

“You wasn’t?” Moochie whipped her head around in Tammy’s direction.

“Ummmmm, I don’t remember chile,” Tammy caught on and tried to cover for me, but she was doing a trash job. The stares that were coming my way from Moochie and my mother let me know they weren’t convinced.

“Mama, why you so dang nosy? Let me be great when I want to. Now y’all help me get this menu and seating arrangements together so I can go home. I’m tired. I never knew you had to plan this shit out this far in advance. Draya asked for this back by the end of the week, and it’s already Wednesday.”

“Ummmm hmmm girl,” Moochie cut her eyes at me.

“So Tammy and Moochie, when are you ladies going to settle down?” my mother questioned, obviously to the can of worms she just opened.

“Ms. Jennifer, I don’t have time to let a nigga add stress in my life and send me to an early grave.
