Dr. Gilchrist’s opinion of the cause of death for Lenora Wright, a twenty-two-year-old Black female, could not be determined by the autopsy, microscopic examination, or toxicological analysis. There was no evidence of significant trauma noted at the autopsy. The blood alcohol levels had been elevated, but it was determined that this was due to advanced postmortem decomposition and, in part, to postmortem chemical changes. Any bruising left by Jerry Marcus’ hands from around Lenora’s neck was long gone due to natural decomposition.

As Marcus had also mentioned with another kill, there was a lot of blood at the scene of this crime. If this was so, it is possible that Lenora could have still been alive when Marcus had left her alone in that house. This was also the second known time that Marcus attempted to clean up the crime scene after the murder, but this factor would not come into play until Marcus confessed some eleven months later. Wright’s murder ended up being considered an accident by the authorities. There were no articles in the local newspaper or any other references that could be found about Lenora Wright.

Lenora did serious damage to Lynn’s car (broken windshield) and my anger intensified to punish her in her own home.

— Jerry Marcus, personal communication, 1999
