Jack the Ripper
"Dear Boss, Grand work the last job was. I gave the lady no time to squeal. How can they catch me now? I love my work and want to start again. You will soon hear of me with my funny little games...My knife's so nice and sharp; I want to get to work right away if I get a chance. Good Luck. Yours truly, Jack the Ripper."
These were excerpts from a letter received by London's Central News Agency on September 27, 1888. It was subsequently transmitted to Scotland Yard, investigating the most notorious killing spree in history. Someone was assaulting women in Whitechapel, murdering them, and then horrifically dismembering their remains.
Jack the Ripper was an unnamed serial murderer who mostly targeted female prostitutes living and working in London's East End slum. Because the killings were never solved, Jack the Ripper became legendary in England. The killings were so well-planned that investigators were unable to determine the killer's gender. He went by many names - the Whitechapel Murderer, Leather Apron, Saucy Jacky, and, of course, Jack the Ripper. Suppose any other killers in history have inspired so many studies, books, and hypotheses courtesy of police officers, historians, writers, and crime buffs who are collectively known as Ripperologists. In that case, one of them must be Jack the Ripper.
