Rory entered the drawing room to join Victoria for tea. He found her seated on a rose colored settee. The tea service was on a table in front of her. She looked delicious in the peach and cream day dress. He'd never been one to notice women's fashions before, but Victoria had changed that. She'd changed his way of thinking a lot since they'd married. Something he was grateful for.

"It's just you and me this afternoon," Victoria said as she proceeded to pour two cups of tea.

"Mac had an appointment, I believe. Fiona? Is she not feeling well?"

"She is quite fine. She was invited to tea at a lady friend of hers."

He watched as she passed a cup to him. No sugar or milk for him. "The Countess of Northampton, I believe. They've been friends since they were children."

"That's the one. I think it's splendid she decided to get out of the house. She's been so consumed with Lily's disappearance."

"Speaking of Lily. I received word that she will be brought to London."

Victoria carefully chose a piece of shortbread. "I can't believe Chandler and your old friend were behind all this. I still think you should involve the authorities." She gazed at him as though trying to gauge his response.

"What I have planned is far worse than involving the authorities."

"Really? How?"

He took a polite sip of tea. "It's hard to explain, sweet. Simply put, if Lily and Will return to Scotland, I'll banish them to a property I own on a nearby isle, though I hate the thought of doing that to Lily."

"What if Will has no intention of taking her back to Skye?"

"He will at some point. Lily will insist. She's close to our mother and the family," he replied.

"What of his sister, Alice. What's her part in all of this?"

"I don't know. Mark my words, Alice is a willing participant in all this, if not the mastermind."

"She's that smart?" Victoria asked, her eyes wide.

"It was she who was behind negotiations for our betrothal. Will had no part of it."

He watched his wife dip the shortbread into her cup of tea. She sensually took a nibble, wiping the edges of her mouth with her finger and tongue. He wanted her, but it would have to wait.

"Do you think Will to be a good match?"

Rory shook his head. "No. I'm not sure what he's all about, but he is the last person I would have chosen to marry my sister."

"You would have preferred Chandler over Will?"

"Yes. At least if Chandler had married her, his gambling debts would have been cleared and hopefully, he would have learned from his mistake. Will has nothing to offer her."

"Except he has her dowry. Or the majority of it. Perhaps he can go into business."

Setting his tea on the table, Rory moved to his wife's side. He took her hand. "Let's talk about something more agreeable. It seems most of our conversations have been about Lily's abduction since we left your father's."
