After we mark off the length of the given side along one of the rays of the given angle, we will locate the midpoint of the given side (a) and construct a parallel line to the other ray of the given angle. This will determine the point (Mc) along the set of points that the median length follows. (See figure 8-28.) The reason for this is that if a line contains the midpoint of one side of a triangle and is parallel to a second side, then it will also bisect the third side of the triangle.

We now do the construction, as shown in figure 8-29.
