THIS TALE WAS FIRST PUBLISHED IN LE JOURNAL IN 1906, AND AMERICAN EDITORS GEORGE JEAN NATHAN AND H.L. MENCKEN REGARDED IT HIGHLY ENOUGH TO REPRINT IN THE MAY 1920 ISSUE OF THEIR PULP FICTION MAGAZINE BLACK MASK.
