The helicopters landed on the soccer field. They were met by Captain Morgan and Sergeant Reynolds.

Captain Bemis jumped out of the Huey as soon as it was on the ground. He snapped off a salute.

“Smith’s hideout is destroyed. It was an old farm but now it’s all smashed up.”

“You’re sure?” Morgan asked.

“Without a doubt. The gunship hit it with air to ground rockets and machine gun fire. We deployed and I watched the place burn, along with the barn and outbuildings. There’s nothing left.”

“Did you see any insurgents?”

“Negative. There was no one there and no signs of anyone. The place was abandoned.”

“I’m not surprised.” Morgan looked at Bemis. “But I promise you, he was nearby watching the whole thing. I’m hoping this will draw him in.”

“Good. I can’t wait to meet him – I’ve heard so many stories. I hear he’s real good with his fists. Hope we made him mad enough to do stupid things, like revenge his dumpy farm.”

“So you were hoping you could kill him, catch him by surprise?”

“Exactly. But there’ll be another day. Hope I made him angry enough to come here.” Bemis looked off into the mountains. “If I’m lucky.”

“Given that, Captain, I want security doubled here at the base ASAP. I’m afraid that we’ve given Mr. Smith a reason to come for a visit. You may not like that.”

“Au contraire – I can’t wait to meet him.”

“Careful what you wish for, Captain.”

“Never.”
