POOCAN “POOK” CADET

This dude was crazy as hell if he thought I was going to wait around for him to show up and kill me. He should have checked my damn resume. I’m a thinker not a fighter so I already knew what his next move was going to be before he made it.

I heard Ambrose’s voice down the hall while I was lying in my bed. It was then that I made my escape, disappearing down the steps nearby. I left without a trace, fearing for my life. Nobody saw which direction I went in.

My nose was broken, but my legs weren’t. However, if I remained in that bed a little bit longer, I might have been put in a body bag instead of escaping right now. I refused to be caught slipping by anyone, especially not this over-the-top, sensitive ass, macho ass nicca.

Ambrose and his brothers come from a line of gangstas. Just like my brothers and I came from a long line of pimps. With that being said, I won’t ever beat that nicca in a fight or any type of battle as a matter of fact. I knew that shit without a doubt.

Therefore, I’m not going to try. I’ma do what I do best, which is pimp. I know the game and the game knows me. When I apply this pressure, I always win. That’s a fact set in stone. As long as I keep my eye on Addy and not her weak ass husband, I was going to come out on top. Always. Whether he understood that or not.

Boldly, I slipped through the hospital hallways, picking up a beautiful bouquet of flowers on my way. It looked like they were just delivered, which was perfect for me. The sick patient that they were for was down bad. She looked like she wasn’t going to make it, which meant she didn’t need these flowers. This bouquet was too well put together just to be on display outside her door.

I expected to see more people when I walked onto the maternity ward. Other than my broken nose, I looked as if I could be a family member of Addy’s. Easily, I blended in with the few people that were passing by. Keeping my head low, I slithered down the hall until I saw her room number.

Pushing the door open, I hoped that she was alone. Thankfully, the universe answered. She was all by her lonesome when I walked in, looking as if she was about to nod off into the deepest sleep ever. For a minute, I had a flash back. I thought she was on that shit again. I blinked away that memory. I guess I’m not used to sober Addy.

Her eyes lit up when she saw me. “Poooook!” she said with her arms stretched out as if she was happy to see me. “You better give me a hug. How long has it been?”

“A long time,” I grinned. “Years for sure.”

“Goodness. You look exactly the same.
