Chapter 13

The next morning, Cathy rolled over and opened her eyes. Where’s Marcus? She sat up and looked at the clock. Then she heard the shower. It’s five-fifteen already.

The water stopped running, and Marcus emerged from the bathroom wrapped in a towel. “Good morning.”

“Good morning.” She stretched.

“How are you feeling, baby?”

“I’m good. How are you?”

“Much better now that you look like yourself again.”

“You can see that this early in the morning?”

“Yes.” He adjusted the towel around his waist.

“You look pretty fantastic yourself.”

“Oh, you really think so?”

“Yes. There’s only one problem.”

“What’s that?”

“The towel is kind of ruining your look.”

“I can fix that.” He dropped the towel. “Better?”

“Oh, yes,” she purred. “Come here.” She beckoned him with her finger. “You haven’t given me my good morning kiss.”

He jumped on the bed and laid a big smooch on her. “How was that?”

“Wonderful.”

“There’s more where that came from.” He laid another toe-curling kiss on her, and then asked, “Can you take this off?” He ran her nightgown’s strap between his fingers.

Cathy shimmied out of the gown and tossed it on the floor. “Better?”

“That’s much better.”

Together, their bodies were a study in contrasts: his hard, muscular form against her soft, supple curves. Yet they came together to form a swirl of passion like no other.

Happy but exhausted, Cathy watched Marcus get ready for practice again.

He buttoned his shirt.

“I like that.” She smiled.

“You should, you were the one who bought it.”

“I know. I wondered if you remembered.”

“Of course.” He looked at the clock. “I have to get going.”

She looked at the clock, too. “I see it’s that time.”

He walked over to the bed and kissed her. “I’ll be right back after practice. I promise.”

“I know. You don’t have to worry about me, though. I have Madison and Anna here. I’ll be fine.”

“Remember what the doctor said about work.”

She made a face.

“And in case you think you’re going to override the doctor’s orders, I already called E.D. He’s instructed everyone not to bother you, no matter how much you beg or email.”

“You’re no fun.” She pouted.

“I love that pout.” He kissed her again. “It still won’t get you anywhere.”

“Party pooper.”

“Seriously, babe, I want you to take it easy.”

“I will. I promise.”

“Good.” He walked to the door. “Love you.”

“Love you, too.” She blew him a kiss.

A little while later, Cathy showered, dressed and went downstairs to the kitchen where Madison and Anna were having breakfast.

“Good morning, Ms. Chambers. Would you like some coffee?”

“Good morning, Davida. I would love some coffee.”

“Hey, sister.” Anna put the paper down. “How are you?”

“Not bad.” She sat down at the table as Davida handed her a mug. “Thank you, Davida.”

“You look like you have a little more color in your face today,” Madison noted.

“I should hope so. I am a black woman.”

“You know what I mean.”

“I know. Thank you.”

“Ms. Chambers, I will be upstairs changing linens in the bedrooms if you need me.”

“Okay, Davida.”

She left the kitchen.

Anna waited until she was out of range. “My God, Cathy, you practically live in a five-star hotel here.
