It had been a long time since Jaesu had gone on a mission with King. Kingâs hair was choppy short compared to the styled long black heâd known for most of their time together. King had been the one to approach him for a job, brazenly approaching the about to be new Syndicate Head with a printed, detailed resume that had nothing to do with illegal or criminal work. Jaesu had been amused and then acquiesced because no one was stupid enough to do such a thing. Many years later, King was still there, smoking leisurely as he drove amid the war laden streets of Seoul.
âJust a few more minutes,â said King, glimpsing the GPS screen on the car.
Jaesu nodded, nose peeked out in the open air in attempt to dissipate the smell of cigarette smoke. His phone vibrated in the centre console between the seats, glimpsing the recently saved number of Phoenix sent to him by Yu.
âKim Jaesu,â Phoenix greeted him. âYu sent me your number. He said youâve been meaning to get into contact with me.â
âI have,â Jaesu replied. âYu told me youâre in America. When do you plan to return?â
âIn a day. Can our conversation wait until then? Or is it a conversation youâd prefer to have now?â
Jaesu ran through the course of events over the past few days. What had transpired in three weeks or less had been enough events to take them through an entire year. What he had learned strikingly since the fall of their Headquarters was that predicting the worst was inevitable.
âI would like to speak now if possible,â he told him.
âGo ahead.â
âYouâve been withholding information from us. Youâre the one whoâs been dealing with AmCo. agents in America. Youâve been making frequent trips to America. Do you have a personal vendetta against AmCo.?â
âIt took you less time than I thought it would for you to figure it out. I do. You are aware of the true mastermind behind AmCo.?â
âI am.â Jaesu turned when King crushed his cigarette into the ash tray embedded into the dashboard. âYou knew as well. Before us.â
âI have my ways,â admitted Phoenix. âMason may have inherited none of his fatherâs ways, but heâs more ruthless than his father. His father and I are old enemies. Heâs taken up that mantle, and the feud between his father and I have passed to him.â
âAmCoâ¦â
âHas always been in existence. It was created by Hansul both in South Korea and mostly functional in America. It isnât a new organization. Itâs always been around, just on the down low, away from public eye or the whispers of social media. It has allowed them to grow into what they are today. That growth is mainly due to Masonâs brilliance. Heâs an actual certified genius and a psychopath.â
âYou have facts.â
âI have his medical records from America.
âIs there any other information youâve been withholding from us?â
âAnother piece of information would be better said in person. Itâs inconsequential to this ongoing war. Once weâre both alive the next time we meet.
