I batted Tau’s hand away when he tried to help me back to my feet. After weeks of constant nausea and puking, I was out of patience with this pregnancy shit. Tau just smiled fondly and passed me a wet cloth to wipe my face.

“How about I just back off and let you rinse your mouth while I go make you a nice smoothie?”

I glared up at my mate from where I knelt in front of the porcelain god. “If I wanted a fucking smoothie, I’d go out and buy one. What I want is a decent cup of coffee, or even tea.”

“I’m sorry, gorgeous. We both know that those are off the menu and that you’re unwilling to accept the decaffeinated versions. I believe that you have made yourself abundantly clear on that matter. So, I’m just going to let you brush your teeth, while I go ahead and make that smoothie.”

My shoulders slumped in defeat as I watched him leave the room. I pushed myself up and went to the sink to rinse the funk out of my mouth. I hated that I was acting like such an asshole, especially when Tau was always so patient—and kind.

I reached down to refasten my pants, biting back a curse as I fought with the button. There was already a telltale bump swelling in my belly, and like it or not, I would need new clothing soon.

With an exasperated sigh I reached for the toothpaste and squeezed some on my brush. I needed to remind myself that I wanted the baby that would be the end result of this pregnancy bullshit—but first I needed to survive the damn pregnancy.

By the time I made it out to the kitchen, Tau was setting the freshly made smoothie on the breakfast counter. I slid onto a stool as I reached for the cup.

I ignored the satisfied smile on Tau’s face as he turned away to clean out the blender. I couldn’t help but notice that he’d even remembered my straw. Although the cold smoothies went down easier than anything else in the morning, I hated the feeling of the ice-cold fluid on my teeth and gums.

A light moan escaped my throat as the delicious flavors of pineapple, banana, and mint hit my taste buds. Tau came over then, drying his hands on a towel as he stood in front of the counter across from me.

“Feeling better now, gorgeous?” he asked gently.

“I’m sorry I’ve been so hard to be around lately,” I fretted with a pout. “I know I’m never the easiest person to live with, but I feel like I’ve been pushing the bounds of even my ability to be irritating. It’s like every damn day I achieve a new level of asshole, and that’s completely unfair to you.”

Tau reached over and cupped my jaw with one hand, his thumb gently stroking my cheek. Sympathy shone from his eyes as he spoke. “Jun, pregnancy hormones can be a real bitch. Are you a bit disgruntled at times? Sure, you are.
