After getting drunk with Emetine last night Joey slipped quietly out of her bedroom in the servant’s house and into the mansion. Normally he never stayed in their home, never wanting whichever sister he was sexing to assume it was more than sexual. He had also yet to tell Cassandra that he wasn’t feeling her anymore.

Still, he wasn’t much worried. Banks had left him in charge and he saw this departure as an unspoken statement that he alone ruled and could do as he pleased.

Besides, he was a Wales.

Wearing grey sweatpants and no shirt, he was about to see what the matriarch of the Nunez family prepared for breakfast when he stopped at his living room. Nothing appeared the same. Every piece of furniture had been rearranged, right down to the pictures on the wall.

Rosa and Ives, smiled when they saw him approaching and met him halfway. She looked guilty and as always used her smile to deflect and throw people off.

“What’s going on?” Joey yawned, pointing at a picture where Jay Z usually hung. “Why you got Spanish Jesus on the wall instead of Jigga?”

Rosa glared. “That is not Spanish Jesus! That is Saint Jude!”

“And what he doing on my living room wall?”

She took a deep breath and smiled. “We only put him up while your father is away. We had him up before you moved here, before you met your new home and it protected the island. It’s only right while your father is gone now, that we put the Saint up again. To protect over us. To protect over you too.”

“Nah, tear all this shit down,” He ordered waving his hand. “Put it back the way we liked it.”

“But Mr. Wales is not here.”

He glared. “Pops ain’t gotta be here for shit to stay the same. I’m here. My mama here. Now put Barack letting that little boy touch his head back on that wall or whatever, and Jay back on the other. And put the furniture back the way we had it.”

She glared.

Ives did too.

Joey stepped closer to them. “Yah hear me or not?”

She stared at him a bit longer and then blinked a few times. “Sure, sir, whatever you say.”

He walked away.

“Con el tiempo serás un recuerdo,” she whispered, as if it were some dreaded curse.

He stopped and turned around slowly. “What you just say?”

“Anything you want, sir,” Rosa responded with her chiseled smile again.

The thing was he knew she was lying. Cassandra had already put him on to what the saying meant. What she actually said was; in time you will be a memory.

Rosa repeating what Cassandra had before, told him a few things. The main one being that they talked about his family being a memory a lot, using those exact words.

He just had to find out why.

What was also clear, in the moment, was this…something was wrong with the Nunez family.

Something was dreadfully wrong.
