Private Journal at Chili

I woke with a severe headache yesterday morning it ached some during the day and more during the night so that it kept me awake and I thought of home. I attended church yesterday and heard Mr Fenner again. He preached an excellent sermon from the text “For their heart was not right with him neither were they steadfast in his covenant” Ps[alms] 78. 37 Subject Self-examination I should not be willing to stay from home six weeks were it not for these things. I want people to have a chance to realize that I am gone. I wish to finish some presents for the family a collar for Aunt [Eleanor] a chemise for [cousin] Kate an apron for [cousin] Anna and I will take a piece of music to [cousin] Jane I think I shall return prepared to resume my duties in a cheerful manner and be welcomed by every member of the family. I will write a letter so as to mail it Wednesday. It is time for me to prepare for dinner one of Bob[']s school friends is here.
