Chapter 8

I sat outside the Salis Deli waiting on the two women in my life to join me for lunch. I had been avoiding their questions for a week but it was time to come clean with them. I had another interview scheduled for a week from today at a university close enough to home. I emailed them to inquire about any position where my skills could be utilized and I was offered a position as a lecturer and chemical research director. It sounded exciting. It was much closer to home than Valgro so it was my next best option since my employment with Persaud Pharmaceuticals fell through. I had not called nor had I received a call from Molly or her company, so I just mark that down to being one of my greatest mistakes, put it behind me and move on...at least, I will...as soon as I stopped crying at nights because I was replaying our lovemaking over and over in my head.

I could still feel her every touch and I could still see her beautiful face each night before I go to sleep. In the day it was difficult to do so because Kira took up most of my time, but in the quietness of the night, it was all about Molly Persaud. I believed what got me most of all was her rejection. How could we have shared such a wonderful day together and she just walked away. We worked beautifully in the morning, went to the event and kissed and danced… How could it not mean something to her? We made passionate love. I brought her to an orgasm...twice. It wasn't enough; she left me there in her penthouse and I never saw or heard from her again. It was heartbreaking but I believed that eventually I would be alright and eventually I would get over her.

I looked up as my sister pulled out a chair in front of me.

“Hey, sis. Where is Rhea?”

“You know she is never on time.”

“Did you go in to the office today at all?”

“Yea. I ran in this morning to take back some documents I had to go over, but I ended up staying a couple of hours. I have a meeting after this, which I am not prepared for. Have you heard back…”

“I'm so sorry ladies. I promise to be the first one to lunch the next time,” Rhea said.

“You have been saying that for years. Maybe if you don't promise you could actually do it. Why don't you try that?” I said to my best friend.

“OK. I will. What are we ordering?”

“I want a salad and we all know you will be ordering the same thing you do every time.”

“Salis sub and loaded fries,” Rhea said.

“Oh my God! Can you be any more boring?” my sister asked her.

“Of all the time I have ordered this meal, have you ever once tried it? You complain but you never tried it,” Rhea replied.

“OK. That's my order.”

“Are you serious?” I asked my sister.
