“I hadn’t until yesterday I called and realized she was danger so we all went to get her.”

“We all?”

“Vivian, Olivia, Julia and I. It was a big production to get her out of there but she is safe and staying with Julia for a couple of weeks. I didn’t want to take her here because of what was happening with us but after the two weeks is up she will be coming here until she is back on her feet.”

“Considering the past that you both shared, don’t you think you should discuss that with me before you bring her into our home?” she asked softly.

“Yes but considering that we broke up, I didn’t think that was necessary.”

“And now?”

“Now, she will be coming at the end of two weeks. Listen, Solia. I have forgiven you for what you have done but I can’t see us getting back together as a couple because I won’t be able to make love to you again without seeing Shelby’s hands and mouth all over you. I am just trying to see if we can salvage the friendship. I think you should sit and speak with Shelby about your future because I now honestly believe that neither you or your family think I am right for you,” I explained.

“Emerson...no,” she cried. “I don’t see you the way my parents do. Emi...can we just try one last time. Let us make love and once you get past that initial uncomfortable thought about Shelby you will be fine because from then on you will know that I am making love with only you.”

I walked over to her and touch her face, trying not to see her as the liar and cheater she became but as the friend who had stood with me during the lowest points in my life and helped to lift me out out of them.

“Soli, do you love Shelby?”

“I love you.”

“Did you tell Shelby you will not be seeing her again?”

“I did today.”

“What did she say?”

“She was disappointed.”

“You need to undo that before it is too late. Go to her. I gave us a shot and it didn’t work out. I am going to remain single for a while because if I can’t trust you, my Solia, who the fuck can I trust? I want you to be happy. Go see Shelby. I am going to see Alexis for dinner. If you choose to stay here, please move into one of the other bedrooms,” I said and left.

She remained rooted to the spot when I was leaving and she could not believe what I was saying to her but what else could I do? I couldn’t just ignore what she had done. I wanted the life I planned with Solia, while our relationship lacked the excitement I was use to, there was love and contentment and order. I was safe but most of all I trusted her. I no longer felt that way.

I arrived at Julia’s apartment and one look at Alexis told me something was wrong.
