Just as a wood or forest may be regarded as a huge super-animal in which all the parts are alive and respond dynamically to each other, the nation may be regarded either as a super-animal (for example, a giant human being) or as a huge super-plant. It even manufactures its own food – by photosynthesis, as it were, through the agency of the Light of its super-dominant Sun and top canopy of dominants – in agricultural, industrial and academic plants, manufacturing food for the deranged body, mind and imagination. The nation forms a perverted biome and biotic community (see figure 6.1 ).
