TONY LUPIEN. A Harvard graduate, Lupien was the Stars’ first baseman in 1946 and 1947. He came to Hollywood from the Phillies during spring training in 1946 and was not at all pleased to be back in the minor leagues. He, however, enjoyed two fine seasons in the PCL. In 1947, he hit .341, stole 40 bases, and led the Stars with 21 home runs, which put him back in the major leagues in 1948 with the White Sox. (Dick Dobbins collection.)

WOODY WILLIAMS. In 1947, the Signal Oil Company was a sponsor of Stars’ games on radio and printed sets of Hollywood player cards. Williams spent only a month at Hollywood in 1947, but was included in the first set of cards that Signal produced. The company reprinted the set several times that year, but Williams was only included in the first one. Consequently, it is the rarest of the cards and sells at a premium over the others.
