Mary Ann Groom

Daughter of James Foster Groom

2. Mary Ann Groom was born on 1 January 1809 in Southwark and baptised on 24 January 1809 at St Leonard’s, Shoreditch. She married Edwin Clarkson on 5 March 1831 at St Mary’s, Newington, Surrey. He was born on 18 May 1807 in Tottenham, London, the son of John and Sarah Clarkson. In 1834 they were of Abchurch Lane in the City of London. In 1835 they were of 1 Carter Street, Walworth and Edwin described himself as a gentleman. The 1871 census for 16 Richmond Place, Brighton shows them at home with their daughters Mary and Augusta and grandchildren Edwin and Minnie Clarkson, and two servants, Mary Ann Moon and Harriett Woolgar. Edwin died on 29 April 1875 at 5 Alfred Road Brighton, Sussex. Mary Ann died on 16 October 1894 in Brighton. They had children:

1. Edwin James Clarkson, baptised on 15 January 1834 at St Mary Abchurch, London.

2. James Foster Clarkson, born on 16 November 1834 in Walworth, Surrey. He married Lucy Forster in September 1861 in Shoreditch and they had children:

1. Jessie Marion Clarkson, born in September 1862 in Tottenham. She married Norman Muir on 30 September 1896 at All Hallows’, Tottenham. He was born on 15 July 1858 in Arbroath, Angus, Scotland.

2. Frederick William Clarkson, born in March 1864 in Tottenham and married Ellen Teresa Hunt on 4 April 1894 at St Andrew’s, Enfield, Middlesex. They had children: 1. Trevor Clarkson. 2. Helen L Clarkson. 3. Philip N. Clarkson.

3. James Foster Clarkson born in March 1865 in Edmonton, Middlesex and died in July 1874 aged in Tottenham.

4. Trevor Clarkson, born in December 1866 in Tottenham.

5. Charles Edward Clarkson, born in September 1870 in Tottenham.

6. Augusta Mary Clarkson, born in December 1872 in Tottenham.

7. Lucy Clarkson, born in June 1875 in Tottenham.

8. Constance Louise Clarkson, born in June 1877 in Tottenham, who married George Jeans on 26 June 1912 in Bradford Abbas, Dorset and died in March 1953 in Chard, Somerset.

9. Reginald Clarkson, born about 1879 in Tottenham, found in the 1881 and 1891 censuses.

10. Kathleen Clarkson, born in October 1883 in Tottenham.

11. Edwin Clarkson (twin of Kathleen’s), born October 1883 in Tottenham, found in the 1891 census.

3. Lavinia Mary Clarkson, born in 1838 Tottenham. She married John Colpitts Harrison in 1865 at St Nicholas’s, Brighton, Surrey, England. They had children all born in England:

1. Florence Emma Harrison, born on 4 February 1866 and baptised on 23 May 1866 at Christ Church, Forest Hill, London.

2. John Colpitts Groom Harrison, born on 11 October 1872 in Croydon, Surrey,

3. Emma Matilda Harrison born 1875 and christened 5 August 1877 Brighton, Surrey

4. Thomas Swainston Harrison born on 5 June 1878 in Croydon

5. Edwin James Harrison, born on 26 May 1880 in Croydon.

6. Isabelle Margaret Harrison, born on 6 June 1882 in Croydon, England.

4. Augusta Anne Clarkson, born on 3 January 1842 in Tottenham. She married Walter Langley Pool on 27 February 1862 in Tottenham.

5. Edwin Frederick Clarkson, born about 1845 in Tottenham. He married first to Jane Tootell in December in 1882 in East Preston, Sussex and had two children.
