I want to talk to all high school boys and girls throughout New York State! Here's a grand opportunity to do almost as much for your country as your older brothers are doing in the armed forces! A chance to do hard, healthful, interesting work on America's farms! A chance to help win the important battle of food! Today with so many farm workers away at war and working in defense factories, America needs your help to prevent the threat of hunger to her armies, her allies, her people.

Governor Thomas E. Dewey concluded the radio promotion with his official endorsement: “If you are in high school now and over the age of fourteen, join the Farm Cadet Victory Corps of the State of New York. I urge you to enroll with your teacher tomorrow, subject to your parents' consent!”37

From 1942 to 1943, the program grew from fifteen thousand to twenty thousand young workers, and organizers raised the proposed age limit from fourteen to sixteen because of the overwhelming response from city children. Younger children now excluded by the new rules strenuously protested.
