Chapter Twelve

Something changed. It was off. They spent the next two hours hanging out with the club, but something in Ice shifted after his private conversation with Tracer. A coldness that Everleigh felt to her core. It was her suggestion that they retreat back to his room. Ice obliged but lacked the enthusiasm she expected. Something was definitely off.

Everleigh kicked off her shoes and moved to his bed, taking a seat. This was not how either of them had planned their night to go. A distraction was needed.

“You’re quiet.”

Ice folded his arms, not making a move to get into bed or even undress.

“Not coming to bed?” She smirked, slowly pulling off her shirt, then unsnapping her bra, allowing it to side down to her lap. It was the same move she’d performed a few nights ago. However, she wasn’t getting the same reaction. She saw the heat in his eyes and his fists ball, but he remained solid and stoic, unmoved by her attempt at enticing him.

“After you tell me about what happened.”

The last thing she wanted to do was rehash what happened earlier.

“You know. You heard Trini say it, right?”

He narrowed his gaze, pinning her with his hardened scowl. “You didn’t tell me everything.”

She grasped the sheet, bowing her head slightly, but still keeping her gaze locked on Ice. Shit! Thanks a lot, Tracer.

“I don’t care what he says.”

Ice straightened and his shoulders tensed, making him seem larger and more feral than she’d ever witnessed. “I fucking do. No one talks to you or about you like that. Not here or outside this fucking clubhouse.”

Oh God, this is bad.

“It’s not a big deal, Ice.”

It was but not enough to get Ice angry and riled up. Everleigh wanted to forget, not relive it.

“You weren’t gonna tell me, were you?”

“Look how upset you’re getting. I didn’t want to make it worse.”

Her response did not go over well.

“Why? ’Cause all we’re doing here is fucking?”

Everleigh gasped, grabbing the sheet to cover her bare breasts. The conversation was not what she expected, nor was his tone. It wasn’t aggressive or mean but held no warmth, almost cold.

“Do you want me to leave?”

Ice pursed his lips and grunted. “I want you to tell me what you’re thinking. ’Cause you saying what happened before is no big fucking deal pisses me off. You not telling me what he said about you makes me want to throttle him, and throw him through the fucking wall.”

“But it’s not a big deal unless you make it one.”

His jaw squared. “Now you’re really pissing me off, Ev. I’m here thinking you are my old lady, and you’re treating us like I’m some quick fuck.”

That was the last thing she was thinking. “No, I’m not.”

“It’s exactly what you’re doing. You don’t want me to think that? Then fucking talk to me.”

“I don’t know what you want me to say, Ice.”

“You weren’t gonna tell me. You woulda let that shit slide, Chase and the prospects?”

“Chase can be asshole.”

“Not to you!” Ice shouted, grinding his teeth and muttering something under his breath.
