CHAPTER THREE

THE ASSASSINATION

Suddenly, out of nowhere a helicopter appeared, and shots rang out. Jack grabbed Renee and Joanne and pushed them under the patio cover. The Secret Service was all over the chopper, but they couldn’t bring it down. The chopper left the area and Renee’s agent ran over and informed them that everything was OK.

“Yeah. I feel real safe with you around,” Jack yelled. Then he unloaded on his security chief, “How in the hell did that chopper get so close? This air space is closed to all air traffic unless proper clearance is granted.”

“Yes sir. The chopper had approval.”

“Don’t bullshit me.”

“Sir, it is impossible to keep every plane out of this area.”

Jack looked at Renee, and back at her agent. Renee stood up and looked directly at the agent. “I want you to leave right now. I don’t need your services any longer.”

“What do you mean?”

“Exactly what I said. I want you to leave.”

“Kiss my butt, lady. All you rich white people are the same. You run over all the little guys. When we’re down, you kick us. You’ve been treating us this way ever since you brought the first slave to America.”

“Whoa”, thought Jack. “Here we have a prejudiced black man on our hands and he wants revenge. This is not going to be pretty.”

Jack always kept his old double-barrel shotgun loaded by the back door where Joanne was standing. He nodded to her and she slipped her hand around the door jamb very slowly. She pretended to lose her balance and slipped and grabbed at the shotgun. Jack made an attempt to go to her, but the armed agent told him to stand still. Joanne struggled to get up and once she did, she nodded to Jack that she had the shotgun in her hand.

Jack’s hand was at his side, as he motioned 1, 2, 3, and she pitched the shotgun to him. Just as he got it, the agent fired a shot at Renee. Jack unloaded both barrels with “OO” buckshot into the agent. Joanne dove into the house for cover.

As Jack walked toward the shooter, three agents came running onto the patio with their weapons drawn. Jack checked the shooter. He was dead. He then laid the shotgun down and leaned over Renee. “Joanne, call 911.”

“They are already on the way. He turned to his agent. “Get that front gate open. Now!!!” The agent was on his radio. In less than three minutes, the EMS was there and ascertained that the wound was bad. Jack directed them to take Renee to the helipad. “A chopper is waiting.”

He turned to his agent in charge. “Get someone in there with her. Hell, all of you get in there.” Then he pointed to a certain agent, “You take care of her.”

“Yes sir.”

The chopper left. It was a life or death situation. The President had already lost a lot of blood. EMS called Llano Hospital and informed them that the President had been shot and was in route there now.
