The next day, Reid arrived to the party early carrying packs of beer and a bottle of whiskey. Tanya asked him to come early so that he could have a chance to get to know her friends before the others arrive.

After everyone was introduced, the girls sat on the couch looking expectantly at Reid who was sitting on a chair in front of them.

“I feel like I am going to be interrogated,” he said smiling at everyone.

“Okay, I can start,” Hailey said clearing her throat and continued, “so Reid what are your intentions with our friend?” Tanya could see that she was trying to keep a straight face.

Blake continued without waiting for Reid’s response, “our girl Tanya is smart, beautiful, has a well-paying job, and she lives in a mansion as you can see.” She gestured to all sides of the room with both hands. “So what do you bring to the table?”

Reid looked at Tanya. She was just standing there shaking her head. He looked like he was trying to decide whether they were joking or that they were too protective and these were legit questions.

Farah took over, “as you know, we have known Tanya for a long time. Are you ready to accept that if it comes down to it, we will always come first?” Farah can pull a poker face better than anyone. She was not flinching or giving any sign that she was not serious.

“Guys stop bullying Reid,” Tanya intervened.

“No, no. You don’t have to rescue me, babe,” he gave her a wink and continued.

“My intentions with Tanya are to always try to make her happy and annoy her from time to time. I bring my charm, dashing good looks, physical strength, and other skills, which I cannot say without embarrassing Tanya and making everyone uncomfortable, to the table. And also, my mansion is bigger than this. Lastly, I will not put her in a situation where she has to choose between her friends and me.” He said alternating his looks to each of them depending on whose question he was answering.

They gave him a slow clap and Tanya wrapped her arms around his neck from behind and kissed him on the cheek. It did not take long before everyone started bantering like they had known each other for a long time. Her two worlds seem to come together with ease.

Shortly after, her coworkers, Theo, Michelle, Michael, Emma, and Jeremy, arrived one after the other. Everyone brought drinks or snacks, although Tanya was happy to provide everything. Simon and Amy were the last to arrive. When Tanya opened the door, she saw them standing there with big smiles like a couple of cartoon characters.

“Hey, you must be Simon and Amy,” Tanya said reciprocating their smile.

“Hey, you must be Tanya.” They responded in tandem. They are cartoon characters, Tanya thought. They looked too happy. Like one of those people who wake up genuinely happy and grateful because they get to see a new day. She already liked them.
