Porter’s Five Forces
To influence buyer behavior, corporate leaders and board members need to take an increasing role in demanding better cybersecurity from their organizations. Corporate leaders must set high standards, invest wisely in cybersecurity, and expect more secure solutions from vendors—all critical elements needed to support our moonshot.
All the other actions we have discussed so far are moot if we don’t also come up with solutions to address the human factors that contribute to poor cybersecurity. Humans are fallible, and no level of awareness training will completely protect them from social-engineering tactics that hackers rely on. Technology users number in the billions globally—estimates indicate there were 2.6 billion Internet-connected smartphones and two billion computers in use globally in 2015—and educating all or some of them is beyond comprehension.149, 150 We have figured out how to make tech enabled devices intuitive and usable for billions of people, with little to no training. If we want to solve the human element of cybersecurity, we have to make security as intuitive as the very technology it sits on.
