Occasionally, a death dream might indicate a death, but not necessarily the death of a person. If there’s no sense of fear in the death, the dream can mean you’re letting go of something or moving on. On the other hand, a corpse can indicate a lifeless routine. (See also dead and dying.)
Transitional Symbols
As described in the entry above, death is not a literal symbol, but rather a more abstract representation of a difficult transition or upheaval taking place in life. Some other dream symbols that also convey a similar feeling include war, graves, stench, rats, and leeches.
December: A time of gift giving and receiving, to dream of this month can suggest the accumulation of wealth and fortune.
deer: A deer in a dream might symbolize hunting. Deer are also graceful and gentle creatures who are easily frightened. In folklore, deer are the messengers of fairies and, therefore, can be seen as messengers of the unconscious. Deer might also represent swift legal movement.
delight: Dreaming about being in a state of delight—feeling keen enjoyment—means also that all aspects of your life will go well and you will be successful.
desert: A desert is usually thought of as a desolate place, where little grows. It can be symbolic of a fear of death, or of being barren. But a desert can also symbolize hidden beauty and hidden life that is camouflaged to ordinary perceptions.
devil: The quintessential symbol of evil and temptation, if you see the devil in your dreams in his stereotypical form with the usual trappings, it could mean you’re hiding something wrong that you’ve done and your guilty conscience is bothering you. If you are fighting the devil off, this might represent people who are trying to hurt you.
dew: Suggestive of tiny treasures or small pleasures, to dream of sparkling dew may represent that wealth and achievement are due. For a
single person, perhaps a fortunate marriage is imminent.
diamonds: When you dream of diamonds, a lot depends on the context and the other symbols present in the dream—not to mention your own personal impressions of those symbols and the diamond within that construct. Typical interpretations vary, and diamonds have come to symbolize a variety of things, from love, devotion, and faithfulness (as in a diamond engagement and wedding ring); to forbearance and strength; to good luck, victory, success, and zeal; and even money.
If you dream of owning diamonds, you will have great honor bestowed on you—great honor from high places. A gift of a diamond depends on who’s giving it and other circumstances. A diamond received from a parent or relative could relate to an inheritance; if given by a friend, it might indicate a wish to obtain that person’s love. Women dreaming of receiving a diamond or diamonds from a lover denotes they will make a great marriage and be happy and wealthy. If you dream you lose a diamond, however, look out for disgrace and need. A lost diamond, especially a ring, can also symbolize a concern about a love relationship.
