Matters continued on like this for several years. In 1892, a French boundary commission established the southern border between Guinea and Liberia, which was redrawn in 1907 and then redrawn again as France found itself in a military confrontation with the border tribes. The French used this to stretch the boundary a few miles further into Liberian territory.

In 1903, the British revisited the Sierra Leone boundary issue, and an Anglo-Liberian Boundary Commission was established to finalize the question. Once again, as tribal war broke out, the British moved swiftly to pacify the affected areas, and in the process they planted the Union Jack on yet more Liberian territory. The situation was finalized only in 1911, with the United States carefully monitoring the situation. From that point forward, the border between Liberia and Sierra Leone in the west was established as the Mano River, which is where it is situated today.
