[IV/202b] I shall relate briefly here what I discovered by experiment concerning the matter you asked me about, first in person, and then in a letter. To that I’ll add what I now think about the subject. I had a wooden tube made for me, 10 ft. long, with a cavity 1 2/3 [15] in. wide, to which I attached three perpendicular tubes, as shown in the figure below.
