We’ve bought SIM cards in more than 12 countries, and the process is usually very simple. The cheapest country was Cambodia, where the SIM cost $2, and 3.5 GB of data was $5. The most expensive was the US, where the card was free, but 2 GB of data cost $60. In the UK, Three’s Feel at Home service allows you to use your phone in nearly 20 countries at no extra cost. Although it’s not designed for long-term use, we used it in five countries in a year. It meant we didn’t have to bother buying a local SIM (especially useful on short trips), and it saved us money in the US, where data plans are expensive.
