Now we will utilize the above information to see how the primary thoughts, simple ideas and complex ideas are generated.

Level-IV Neurons as Perceptual Neurons

Thus, based on the above information, it can be said that the neurons in layer IV of the primary visual cortex constitute the perceptual neurons for vision, and these neurons generate the primary thoughts of vision (Fig. 5.4). From here the primary thoughts are transmitted to layers I, II and III, which are then relayed to the surrounding association areas where simple ideas are formed. The signals from the primary visual cortex may also be transmitted to layers V and VI, which are then relayed to the distant cortices, such as temporal lobe, frontal lobe etc. where complex ideas are generated (Fig. 5.4).

Having located the perceptual neurons in the human CNS, we will now proceed with the actual mechanism of generation of primary thoughts by the neurons, as discussed in Chapters 6, 7 and 8. In Chapter 6 we will see where exactly in the perceptual neurons these primary thoughts are generated.
