Cinnamon and two other women perform on the stage in black and pink corsets with sequined bras. Their black ruffled skirts flow down the back of their legs. Rhinestones cover their black gloves. The choreography is seductive and trance-like.

Blake watches from the corner of the bar. He sucks down his whiskey.

Rocks takes a seat next to him. “Told you boss would be none too happy.”

“Sorry to disappoint him.”

Rocks watches the performance. “Interesting fact. The guy we wanted you to find used to hang out in this club. Funny, yeah?”

Blake doesn’t bother to turn towards Rocks. “I guess. But I’m more into slapstick.”

The joke hurdles over Rocks’ head. The three women on stage turn and bend over. They pat each other’s butts. Rocks licks his lips.

“What do you want, Rocks?”

Rocks sucks his teeth. “Right now, I want to know what you’re doing in here.”

“I was enjoying a drink and watching the girls.”

Rocks finally turns to Blake. “Yeah?”

Blake meets his gaze. “Yeah.”

Rocks surveys the bar to make sure nobody is paying them any attention. Satisfied with his findings, he pulls out an envelope and slides it across the bar to Blake. “Boss decided you’re working for us now, yeah. Find Arthur Preston.”

“What if I can’t find him?”

Rocks gets out of his seat. “We’ll find you.” He turns and makes his way out of the club as the dancers exit the stage.

Blake stuffs the envelope into his pocket.

In the back corner sits Pettford and Mitchell. They’re in the midst of a heated discussion. Pettford’s two burly bouncers approach Mitchell. They motion for him to come with them.

Mitchell declines the invitation.

The bouncers take another step closer. Mitchell jumps out of his seat and back peddles away from the table and across the club. The bouncers pursue him until finally, he exits.

Blake watches the entire situation. Cinnamon, now dressed in sweats, arrives at the bar next to him. She turns to Blake and grins. Blake responds with, “Can I buy you a drink?”

Cinnamon doesn’t hesitate with her drink order. Seems she never intended to buy her own drink. “Tequila my love. Straight up.”

Blake motions for the bartender. “Get the lady a tequila. Straight. I’ll have another.” The bartender shuffles off to make the drinks.

Cinnamon leans into Blake’s space. “You look familiar. What’s your name handsome?”

“Blake Fields.”

She extends her hand. “Cinnamon.” They shake. The bartender arrives with the drinks. Cinnamon wraps her fingers around the glass. “If you came for my show, I’m afraid you missed it.”

Blake takes a sip of his drink. “I saw it. You were great. But your dancing isn’t why I’m here.”

Cinnamon chugs her drink and motions for another.

Blake continues, “Could I have a word with you? In private.”

“Sounds like my kind of party. I get off in an hour.” She takes a napkin off the bar. “You got a pen?” The bartender sets her new tequila in front of her.

Blake produces a pen from the inside of his coat.

Cinnamon grabs it and scribbles. “Here’s my address. come by in about two hours.
