2.Our next step was to make a color wheel (and Gavin had out his favorite puzzleâa wooden âflowerâ of primary, secondary and tertiary color blending), making yellow-orange here and red-orange there, but never actually mixing the paints. Tightly bunched, the dots seemed to blend as our eyes blurred them into new hues. Yet the dots, like people, actually remained distinct. It was similar to the way individual peopleâs perspectives may also join into something new when they work closely together.
3.We pulled out the colored stamp pads and eraser tipped-pencils next, making âconfettiâ all along a strip of paper that could be (and was!) stapled to dowels and turned into streamers.
4.Then, we each chose a still-life subject that was close to our hearts: the subject can be an ancient goddess, a superhero logo, part of an historic buildingâ¦anything goes. Itâs the kidsâ work, so it has to be engaging. Your only guideline is that the subject should be a singular subjectâfor example, a particular part of a single ancient statue rather than a busy scene in downtown Athens; a single dancer rather than a whole Degas ballet class.
5.Once youâve chosen the subject, you need to get its outline on the white paperâwhich is easily achievable in one of several ways:
â¢Your artist can sketch the outline of the subject.
â¢Use large stencils or rubbing plates (see Resources).
â¢You can find a âline drawingâ online (type that into the search engine with the subject word).
â¢You can even print a famous painting from online (see Supercoloring in Resources).
