Talon tossed—more like aggressively threw—his shirt across the room. He missed the chair in the corner and it landed on the floor. “Fuck,” he mumbled. He undid the button of his jeans and raked a hand across the top of his head. “No. I’m not letting this happen again.” He yanked open the door and stomped down the hallway toward the other bedroom. A noise in the kitchen caught his attention. He turned his head.

Marley stood in front of the fridge. She glanced in his direction. “I’m hungry, but nothing looks appealing.” She shrugged, shutting the door.

He swallowed, trying not to gawk.

She wore nothing but a T-shirt and a pair of panties. She tugged at the hem of her top, trying to pull it down toward her thighs. No one was as beautiful as Marley. Not in his eyes. Over the last six years, he’d compared every woman he’d dated to Marley. Not just looks but their ability to hold an intelligent conversation. Marley was the total package. She had everything going for her, and he’d been the fool who’d let her slip through his fingers.

Not this time.

“I’ve spent the last few years trying to be a better person and do you know the hardest part?” he asked.

“No, but I get the feeling you’re about to tell me.” She shifted her weight back and forth, doing a little dance on her toes.

“No one ever believes I’ve changed. No matter how much I show them I’m different, except maybe Channing, but even he acts like I’m going to fuck up eventually and I get it. I do. I’ve been second to my twin my entire life. Never quite good enough and when it comes to my love life, I can understand why any woman would be leery of dating me. However, ever since we broke up, I haven’t been able to get you out of my head or my heart.” He tapped the center of his chest as he inched closer. He wanted to feel the heat of her body. “You know me better than anyone. The only reason I didn’t come after you was because of that damn text from Todd. I knew in my heart that the two of you had gotten together. That you had done exactly what you had accused me of doing.”

“That text was your excuse.” She swiped at his hand and poked his chest. “You’re too selfish and when you get butt hurt, you coil up like a coward.”

“Well, I’m not doing that now.” He wrapped his arms around her and heaved her to his body, holding her tight. “I’m here. I’m present. I’m telling you that I still love you and now I’m going to show you.” He kissed her so hard he thought he might have bruised both their mouths.

Her tongue twisted and rolled over his in a familiar passionate dance. Her fingers dug into his shoulders. There was a sense of desperation in her embrace.

Smoothing down her thighs, he gripped the back of them and lifted her feet off the floor, keeping their mouths properly entangled.
