“Well, that was easy enough,” Sam spoke, and Gemini opened his eyes to find the window now housed yellow orchids and a sign that the owner had their special lemon drop brownies in stock.

“It worked?” Gemini took a deep breath and then relaxed and rubbed the back of his neck. “That was something. I wouldn’t say it was easy though.”

“Did you think it wouldn’t work?” Sam let go of his hand. “Good thing the sun is down or that would have been a risk, you landing us in the middle of the street like this.”

“Hey, you didn’t say I had to do this indoors.” Gemini defended himself, though it should have been obvious enough.

“You’ll know for next time, best to stick to alleys or bathrooms. Somewhere people won’t be lingering.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.” Gemini nodded, then broke out in a chortling laugh. “Can you imagine popping into the bathroom while someone’s taking a shit?”

“Gross.” Sam shook their head, but snickered at the thought.

“So, there will be a next time?” Gemini refocused on Sam’s earlier statement. “Does this mean it doesn’t stink as bad as you thought it did?”

“I didn’t say that.” Sam waved off his question. “Let’s just get through this experience before we plan for the next one.”

“When I’m done with you, you’re going to love Earth so much, you won’t want to leave.”

Just then, a garbage truck drove past them, and Sam pinched their nose. “I highly doubt that is true.”

Gemini did everything he could to make the trip a good one for Sam. He took them to all of his favorite places. They visited his old stomping grounds and even saw a few old friends who he hid from. He stepped into the shadows, afraid to approach them. He was different, not just in age but on Earth, Gemini didn’t look like himself anymore.

Catching his reflection in a window, he almost jumped back. In Novia, he looked like his usual self, simple, approachable, alluring. On Earth, his presence was far more imposing. Any sane human would fear the man in front of them. His eyes were dark, his smile sinister. He looked like a predator, the type of man he once protected the women from during their protests. He struggled to think that he could make anyone feel like Xavier made him feel. Fear, panic, terror. He didn’t want to be that kind of monster.

“What the hell?” Gemini peered closer at his reflection. “Why do I look like that?”

“You don’t have your allure on.” Sam pointed to their face, which looked normal to Gemini.

“My what?”

“We don’t look the same here as we do on Novia. Something about the magic of our world that makes us more appealing. Here, we channel that energy. It’s draining, but luckily we don’t spend that much time socializing with humans.”

“How do I do that?”

“Do you remember what your face looks like?”

“Yes.” Gemini chewed his lip. He didn’t spend much time staring at his own reflection, but he had a general idea of his own appearance.
