Chapter Five

After the glorious wake-up call, Melissa wanted to spend the rest of the day with her husband, but it wasn’t to be. He had to go to work.

“I know it’s not ideal,” he soothed her as she pouted, “but you can explore Mojaz today. It’s a tiny planet—you can see the whole thing in a week. You’ll enjoy it—I promise.” Leaning down, he kissed her forehead tenderly, leaving hot tingles in its wake, his purple eyes filled with passion.

She tried to smile, but she couldn’t. She didn’t want to be left here alone all day. She didn’t know anyone, she didn’t know the customs… what if she did something wrong and got in all sorts of trouble? What if someone hurt her? It wasn’t safe to walk around alone on Earth, there were too many criminals about, and here, she didn’t even know how to recognize a police officer. What if she got lost? What if a storm came up and she couldn’t find shelter in time? All the possible ‘what if’ scenarios were running through her head and making her frightened. It was bad enough that she was all alone on a strange planet, but to leave her completely by herself on her first full day there was just cruel.

“Come and sit down and have some breakfast,” Damian invited, patting the seat next to him.

She shook her head. “Not hungry.” She was not a breakfast person. She never ate before midday; not since she was a child and living under her mother’s thumb had she eaten on someone else’s schedule.

“You need to eat,” he cajoled her. “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.”

It was the condescending tone that did it—something inside her snapped and she broke out of her sulk and was immediately filled with rage. “I’m an adult!” she snapped at him. “I’ll eat when I damn well feel like eating! Don’t you dare tell me what I need to do!”

As quick as a flash, Damian was beside her and had bent her over under his arm. It happened so quickly that she didn’t even have time to react. Before she could fight him, he was walloping her backside with his large, heavy palm. Pain exploded in her rear as his hand connected with her butt six times in a matter of seconds, then he released her. She backed away from him, glaring daggers at him. Anger and frustration welled up within her and met the panic that was beginning to surface and it was all she could do not to scream with rage.

“I’ve already explained to you how important your submission is,” he scolded her sternly. “I can’t afford to have questions asked because of your disobedience. Besides,” he softened his voice, letting a more cajoling tone into it. “I need your help. I need both your mind and your body fit and strong. I need your mind clear, not fuzzy from lack of food. Your help is imperative in bringing Zuss to justice and freeing all those women he holds captive—it is important that you eat breakfast.
