Chapter 17
Mireyah
An Unwanted male Sylfe fetched me from the Visitation area after lunch. He just told me to follow him without explaining why, but given how many things were happening in my current life, I just stood and followed him.
Then Iâd waited in complete silence for ten minutes, cursing myself for not bringing my book along with me. I cast my eyes to the ceiling as I leaned back on my chair, wishing my wait could just finally be over.
The door to the room opened softly, and I looked over, hopeful because I was going out of my mind with boredom. Colm stepped in and nodded the moment he saw me. In his wake was Edlynne Nastroj, his deputy and Caprice, the one upon whose shoulders Sylfeshire rested.
Colm walked over to stand before me. I looked up at him expectantly, but his face was blank as he allowed Edlynne to stand beside him and Caprice to position herself in front of them.
"Good day, Mireyah. Are you having a good day?" Caprice's question threw because it was the last thing I could imagine that anyone would ask me when it seemed like such an important and heavy moment.
"Hello, Mother Caprice. I am well, thank you for asking?" Even though I didn't mean to do so, I ended it on a question because that was how I felt - curious and impatient. It wasn't a very nice combination, or so I knew from all the years I'd been alive in this world.
"That's good to hear," she replied with a big smile and it took all I had in me not to tell her to move her ass and demand she not waste my time because as nice as she was, I had a feeling she wouldn't be too willing to have me disrespect her in that manner. Her tolerance must only go so far.
Behind her, Edlynne Nastroj laughed and grabbed Colm's arm. "Mother Caprice, Mireyah appears to be annoyed. Patient she is not."
"No, she is not," Colm agreed with a laugh. "Mother Caprice, she is about to explode. I can imagine just how much it is chafing at the bit as she tries not to demand that you tell her what is going on."
Caprice nodded and laughed along with the two other Gods in the room. "Of course. I apologize, my dear. I have never been known for my abruptness. I find it way too much fun to take the longest route when there are several available. No, I'm afraid it is more Anselm's realm to barrel on to things as fast as possible although you mustn't tell him I said so." She laughed again and shook her head, the long black strands of her hair flying around a face that was youthful. "But Iâm sure you wish that he was the one you had to deal with than me."
"Yes," I answered truthfully, although whatever heaviness and resentment that was building inside me crumbled at the way Caprice was handling the situation.
"I'm
