Rnd 1: Work as Rnd 1 for medium granny square above, but DO NOT fasten off at completion of rnd. {Four 3-dc groups}
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in each of next 2 sts, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) corner in next ch-2 space (notice that this is a slightly different corner from that used in the granny squares), dc in each of next 3 sts; repeat from * around, ending with (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in last ch-2 space, join last st to top of beginning ch-3 with a sl st. Fasten off A, leaving long enough tail to weave in securely. {7 dc on each side of square}
Rnd 3: Attach B with a dc in first st to the left of any corner ch-2 space. *dc in each st to next ch-2 space, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 space; repeat from * around, ending with sl st to join last st of last corner with first st of rnd. {11 dc on each side of square}
Rnd 4: Ch 3, *dc in each st to next ch-2 space, work corner in ch-2 space; repeat from * around, ending with dc in each of last 2 sts; sl st to join. Fasten off B. {15 dc per side of square}
Rnd 5: Attach C with a dc in first dc to the left of any ch-2 space. Work same as Rnd 3. {19 dc per side of square}
Rnd 6: Work same as Rnd 4. At end of rnd, fasten off C. {23 dc per side}
Rnd 7: With E (instead of B), work same as Rnd 3. {27 dc per side}
Rnd 8: Work same as Rnd 4. Fasten off E. {31 dc per side}
Rnd 9: With A, work same as Rnd 3. {35 dc per side}
Rnd 10: Work same as Rnd 4. Fasten off A. {39 dc per side}
Rnd 11: With D, work same as Rnd 3. Fasten off D. {43 dc per side}.
Weave in all yarn tails securely into matching color yarn areas. If stitch counts are correct, the stitches of the edge of this motif will match the edging stitches of completed first side of bag. (The corner sc of the first side âmatchesâ the ch-2 space of the second side). Set completed second side of bag aside.
