The in-text citation in APA style would look like this:

Oral morphine is widely used to help relieve severe cancer pain (Wiffen, Wee & Moore, 2016).

Secondary citation

You should try wherever possible to locate the original source and cite it directly – by doing this you can ensure that the reference actually supports the point that you are trying to make.

You may find in the course of your reading that you come across a reference to another source which you have not read directly. In this case you would use a secondary citation in your work. A secondary citation is a reference to a source that you have found in another text but which you have not directly consulted yourself. Your reference should be for the work you have actually read, but you will also need to acknowledge in the body of your text the author of the secondary source.

The information you will need to note to create a secondary citation may include the following: name of author(s) whose work you want to reference but have not been able to read, author(s) and title of the source you have read, date of publication of the source, publisher and place of publication if a printed source or web page address/DOI and date when you accessed the source online.

The following example shows a secondary citation to a source by Porter which has been found in a book by Scriven.

Scriven, A. (2017). Ewles & Simnett’s Promoting Health: A practical guide. (7th ed.). Edinburgh, United Kingdom: Elsevier.
