The sunâs rays radiating through the window shine down on my face, and I grimace. Why is it so bright today? I thought it would snow more. After being tortured on the road with days of snow, itâs suddenly sunny? So much for the weather forecast then.
I sit up groggily and rub my neck. My body is stiff even though I slept on the bed. I sniff, and the itch to sneeze tickles my nose. I knew Iâd catch a cold.
I sigh and stare up at the ceiling blankly. The wedding is today, but I donât feel like going. After coming all the way out here for it, I donât feel like attending. Whatâs the point anyway?
I get off the bed and move to the bathroom to wash my face. There are dark circles under my eyes. I look tired. I turn on the faucet and splash some water on my face.
I wonder how Ro is doing at the hospital. I should probably call her and check. I step out of the bathroom and pick up my phone from the nightstand. The time on it says itâs past 10:00 am. I slept in really late. Iâm scrolling through my contact list when I realize I donât have her number. I never collected it.
I turn off the phone and drop it on the bed. What am I doing? I shouldnât be calling her. I just told her I couldnât be with her last night after she fell down the stairs. I shouldâve been there for her instead of pushing her away like that. No matter what I was feeling, breaking up with her so abruptly was not the right thing to do.
Fuck! Iâm a horrible person.
I donât know what to do anymore. Sheâs probably mad at me and doesnât even want to see me. I canât go to the wedding because sheâs going to be there, but Iâm already here, and Ryan and Joelle know I am too. Itâd be insulting to not go to the wedding when they know Iâm in my room.
I pick up my phone and dial up Benjieâs number. Heâs always been good at these sorts of things. Socializing is his thing, not mine.
His number rings for a couple of seconds before he picks up the call.
âYouâre calling twice in a week. That too just hours apart? I should be highly honored. Youâve never craved so much of my attention before.â
âShut up.â
âThat would be hard to do since weâre on the phone, and I need to talk so we can communicate.â
He can be such a goof sometimes.
âI need your help, Benjie.â
âAh! And there lies the conundrum. I shouldâve known youâd only call this much because you did something. Come on, tell Daddy. What did you do?â
âThatâs gross, Benjie. Youâre not my dad.â
He chuckles loudly; dare I say, he has got me in a better mood already. Ro is just like that. I sigh and run my hand through my hair.
âAlright, Iâm serious now. What did you do?â he asks.
