Histrionic people have a low tolerance for emotion, although they are associated with emotionality. One emotion is often used as a defense against some other emotion, but even the substitute may get out of control. Because motivations are experienced as inexorable and potentially intolerable, the ideas that evoke emotion are inhibited.
