Indeed, social anxiety may be becoming more prevalent in our society, due to the rise of social media and the fact that most people maintain multiple public personas or public “selves.” If social anxiety stems from a fear of being “on display,” or a sense that one might be judged, ridiculed, humiliated, or shamed in front of others, then it is no small wonder that the feeling may be increasing in a society in which so many of us are literally “on [computer] displays” all the time.
