Chapter Nine

Angel looked up at Zorn and then at Sander. It was one thing for her life to be screwed up, but for her family to do this to an innocent child was unacceptable. “Zorn?” She didn’t know what to do. The children had been around their kind and she didn’t want to risk their exposure, but at the same time she didn’t want to drastically change the children’s lives living in a secret from society.

“They will live with us, be our children,” Zorn stepped up to her and wiped her tears away, before moving to Linda’s twin bed. His large frame seemed to hover over her for a few seconds before he knelt down beside her bed talking her small hand into his larger one.

“You are going to be our children now. It will be different, but you will be safe and loved here. The two of you will never feel alone again, I promise.” He leaned down and kissed the top of her head, but Angel could tell he was shocked when the little girl climbed out of the bed and into his arms holding him.

Zorn tuned his head to her, and she couldn’t help but smile at the lost look on his face as Linda cuddled up in his lap. Angel glanced over at Carl and noticed him climbing out of his bed and making it over to Zorn too.

An arm slipped around her, and Sander leaned over kissing the top of her head. “We’ll get through this all of us together.”

She leaned her head against Sander and watched as both kids curled up to Zorn, needing his love. He held onto both of them, giving them the comfort, they sought. She leaned over and kissed Sander’s chest. “I’m going to hop in the shower,” Angel stepped away, but Sander brought her back into his embrace.

“All of us need one. We’ll wait for Zorn and go to our room for the night together,” Sander whispered as he placed a kiss on the top of her head. All the while Zorn kept his gaze glued to her except when he gently placed Linda back in her bed and tucked her in. Carl was still tucked next to Zorn’s side as he placed a kiss on her head.

“Sleep little one we’ll speak more tomorrow.” Zorn stood, lifting Carl at the same time. “You little man you are a brave one, but rest assured I will not allow anyone to hurt you or your sister again.” He placed a small kiss on the child’s forehead and put him back into bed.

“Will be like you if we stay here?” Carl asked and Zorn laughed.

“Don’t worry about that right now. We have plenty of time to discuss that. Right now, just know you are safe little one. Angel, Sander and I will be here for you always.” He patted his head and turned to her. “Now let’s go get you cleaned up,” Zorn said nodding to Sander.
