“Botanical Heart II” prominently features botanicals; most of the heart “structures” have been replaced by botanical elements, as opposed to filling in the heart structures with botanical elements.

Follow the pattern on the fabric and use three-strand split stitches to outline each section (use five strands if you prefer thicker lines). Use two different colors to outline the bottom section of the heart.

Next, outline the vines inside the body of the heart. Use three-strand split stitches to create rows in varying shades of green thread until the entire area is filled with a solid group of stitches.

The upper left side of heart is stitched in two shades of green: the outline is kelly green and the structure is filled in with five-strand split stitches in moss green.

Move to the next structure to the right; outline this section in rust and fill it in completely with five-strand split stitches in a lighter tone.

Follow the pattern to stitch the fern on the right side of the piece using three-strand satin stitches.

Many of the remaining elements near the top of the piece don’t follow a pattern; rather, they are added with a free hand.

Add branches with two-strand fly stitches. Use six-strand French knots to create flower clusters.

Fill in the body of the heart with clusters of six-strand French knots in a variety of colors. Add the French knots in one color before moving onto the next color, repeating until each color is complete.
