Think about your spiritual race. How would you describe the course so far?

If there were a news report covering your race, how would it read?

For the last few years my husband has participated in a unique form of torture (at least that’s how I view it!)—a triathlon. The contestants swim for a half-mile (across a lake and back), bike for 18 miles, and then run for five miles. He was quite happy with his finishing time this year, having knocked off three minutes from his last race. And he’s learned a few things about running this kind of race—stuff that’s probably not too different from what might help you run your spiritual race.

Being prepared

There is no doubt that one of the most important aspects of running a good race is training—consistent, challenging training. You don’t just wake up one morning and decide to do a triathlon. Rob spent months running, swimming, and biking. He had to make sacrifices to fit it into his schedule. He had to commit to it daily, whether he felt like it or not. He needed the right equipment—the wrong shoes or tires on his bike could make a huge difference in his time and even in his ability to finish.
