Clearly showing the rural aspect around Trent station, and with just 119¾ miles left to run to London, ‘The Thames-Clyde Express’ eases out of the platform on 1 June 1956 on its way headed by Kentish Town ‘Jubilee’ 4-6-0 Class ‘6P’ No. 45612 Jamaica that has worked through from Leeds City. Built in 1934 at Crewe Works, it was broken up there when withdrawn in March 1964 from Derby shed. (Tony Smith)

Despite having a stud of eighteen ‘Jubilees’ on its books, Leeds (Holbeck) shed was no doubt short of power on this day in June 1959 as Stanier 4-6-0 ‘Black Five’ No. 44849 deputises for the rostered ‘Jubilee’ on ‘The Thames-Clyde Express’ coasting towards its Trent stop. In view of this, a pilot engine would probably be attached at Leicester in order to maintain time. Built in 1944 at Crewe Works, No. 44849 was scrapped there when withdrawn in December 1965 from Leeds (Holbeck) shed. (Joe Wade)
