"I'm going to make a portal for us, okay?" Ryze looked at me intently.

I stared back. "I thought you couldn't make portals in here."

I didn't care. He could have leaned me over the table and pounded into me then and there. I wanted to rip my clothes to shreds and beg him to fuck me. Blood and heat raced through me like they were competing to see which might overwhelm me first.

At the same time, I needed to be in my nest, nestled in my familiar sheets and pillows.

This was more than sex. More than arousal. It was a primal urge to seek shelter, a safe place to satisfy my alpha. To let him satisfy me. With no hesitation, no boundaries.

Ryze chuckled quickly. "No one can portal in, but I can portal out. Otherwise, I'd risk getting stuck down here if the roof caved in. That would be…unfortunate. Particularly right now." His expression was as strained as the front of his pants. If it wasn't for the imperative to take me to shelter, he'd be embedded deep inside me by now.

I suppressed a groan at the thought. The wait was already excruciating. Any longer and I may leak a river of slick on the stone floor.

He threw his hands up in front of him. A vertical white slit appeared in the air before it widened.

The door here was smaller than the one he made in the forest, barely wide enough to fit through if we went one at a time. The edges were hazy, ragged, as though he lacked the power or the concentration for anything neat and finessed.

Instead of a tunnel, I saw right into the upstairs sitting room. If I remembered, I'd have to ask him about that later. Presumably it had something to do with the distance between the two locations.

"It will have to do," he said, his voice drum-skin tight.

I trusted he knew what he was doing right now. I hoped he did, because I certainly didn't. All I knew right now was heat and fear.

He put one arm around my shoulders, the other behind my knees and scooped me up.

"I can walk," I protested.

"Of course you can, but what kind of alpha would I be if I didn't carry you across the threshold?"

"One who doesn't get growled at later for treating me like I'm fragile." But I nestled into his arms and purred.

Anywhere his skin touched mine, he set me on fire. My whole body throbbed with need. Blood pumped through my body. I could have come then and there, but not until I was in my nest.

I tucked my legs in so my feet didn’t hit the side of the portal while he carried me through.

In a rush of cooler air, we stepped into the sitting room.

Ryze called out, sending startled staff running. For what, or who, I didn't know. The sound of thunder in my ears was too loud.

He carried me down the corridor and into my room.

"Breathe," he instructed. He set me down.
