CHADD

Being around any of the mobsters made my skin crawl. It was like I was already in my casket in the dirt and the bugs were crawling and eating away at my skin. They were the type of people that it didn’t matter if you did wrong to them or not, if they suspected it, that’s what they went on.

For a while, the business relationship between Don Luchi and I changed a bit. In the beginning, I wasn’t so fearful but, as time went on, I wasn’t so comfortable. I felt if I was to die by the hands of them when it was all said and done, why not get something out of it?

While I cleaned their money and made sure everything looked legit, I overcharged for my services from the original agreement. When involved in business relationships as such, it was going to end in either two ways: being killed by them or being arrested for helping them.

When I first got in bed with the Luchianos, I didn’t think everything through. I was fresh out of college, just signed to the top investor company and was green to everything. After getting to know the business and doing my proper research on the family and what they had me doing, I knew then and there I had to look out for myself.

“Who were they?” Kayla asked as she made her way back into my office when Logan left.

“Some people that’s not to be fucked with,” I simply said and continued to wrap up the account I was working on before I was rudely interrupted.

That’s one thing I hated about them; they’d just pop up at any time unannounced and expect me to be at their beck and call.

Kayla stood there just staring at me and at the bags on the floor.

“What?” I spoke up and asked.

“What’s in the bags?” she went on to pry.

“None of your concern, Kayla.”

“Wow, okay, it’s like that now? When did you ever start holding stuff from me?” She rested both hands on her hips.

She was right. If it was one person that knew all my business and personal situations, it was her. Kayla knew more shit than Lyric did, and that was my wife.

“Close the door,” I said lowly.

I just hope this don’t come back to bite me in the ass for telling her, I thought.

She sat down right across from me in the same chair Logan was just in.

“I’ve been cleaning money for a mafia family for years now,” I came right out and said.

Kayla looked at me with a blank stare. “Who knows about this?” she finally spoke up and asked.

“Just you, now.”

“Fuck, Chadd. Do you know what kind of shit you’re into?” She shook her head in frustration.

Although I was hesitant to tell her the truth, it felt as if I had a weight lifted off my shoulders. Holding that in for all those years with no one to vent to was hard.

“I know, I know,” I said softly.

“Don’t fuck with these people money.
