Chapter

Eleven

Elena knew when she heard Reggie’s voice. It was bad enough that she’d gotten stuck in the snow and crashed his SUV, but it would be doubly bad if he knew that she’d hooked up with someone she’d just met. She suspected that Reggie also wouldn’t be impressed that Fynn was a yeti. There had to be a reason her new boss hadn’t mentioned that Screaming Woods was populated by monsters, and she suspected it wasn’t because he was so openminded to it.

She attempted to make the giant flannel shirt look like she hadn’t just thrown it on because Fynn had torn the rest of her clothes from her body. Smoothing her sweaty palms down the front of the plaid shirt and slipping her feet into her ruined pumps, she’d walked onto the porch.

“You found me! Sorry about your car, Reggie, but I’m fine.”

Reggie’s eyebrows popped up so high they would have vanished beneath his hair, if he’d had much to speak of. “Elena?”

The hulking, green-skinned monster standing beside the truck was clearly trying not to look startled. This must have been the orc best friend Fynn had mentioned. “Do you need a ride back down to town?”

Elena gulped and glanced at Fynn. She hoped he would understand why she couldn’t let her boss think she’d fallen into bed with the first guy she’d met. It already felt like she was on thin ice since she’d wrecked his car, and even though Screaming Woods wasn’t exactly what she’d expected, she wanted to keep her job and stay. Partly because it would be mortifying to be fired when she’d just started, but mostly because she wanted to see Fynn again.

She smiled at the yeti, wishing that the other two guys weren’t watching them. “Thanks for saving me.”

He dropped his gaze and shrugged without speaking.

Elena desperately wanted to kiss him goodbye, but instead she took a deep breath, nodded, and walked toward the truck. The orc stepped forward, holding out a hand to help her navigate the icy ground.

“Hi, Elena,” The orc said, as he slowly led her across the slushy ice. “I’m Gunner.”

Elena smiled at him. “Fynn’s best friend. I’ve heard a lot about you.”

Gunner looked like he wanted to ask her something, but he glanced back at Fynn and kept walking.

When she was halfway to the vehicle, Elena’s eyes caught on at the floral ice sculptures that were rapidly shrinking in the sunlight. She grinned as an inspired thought came to her and then spun back around to face Fynn.

“Can you make another of these for me?”

He snapped his head up. “What?”

“An ice sculpture.” She waved a hand to the glittering statues on his lawn. “I want you to become the ice sculptor for my weddings. Can you do it?”

Fynn opened and closed his mouth, but he finally gave a single nod.

“Great!” Excitement surged through her. Now she would have an excuse to see him again that wouldn’t make people talk, and she did want to see him again. “Can you do one for this Saturday’s wedding?” She pivoted to Reggie.
