Chapter Sixteen

ONE NIGHT OF SIN

AS THE EVENING PROGRESSED, Sky enjoyed the date as much as her date enjoyed her. But it was only the beginning. She didn’t want the night to end and never doubted she’d have a good time with the self-made bond’s man. Sky got a sneak peek into Sincere’s world as a bonus to the date. A world she could only imagine and had no idea how to attain. Sky’s world, filled with a complex mixture of fantasy, crime, and reality, no longer served her. The fallacy with Sincere became her new reality. A life built around mayhem wasn’t on Sky’s radar. She went from microwave dinners in a small room to gourmet meals in an elegant restaurant with the owner.

Sky was exposed to a different lifestyle early on through the businessman. Returning to a crappy motel room with a man, she stopped viewing as her future no longer made sense. Jewelz six months in jail forced her emotional attachment to break, as well as the codependency he provided since they met. In the past months, Sky was forced to grow up some. She had to or wouldn’t have survived the fast pace of New York City. She became a quick study of the lifestyle and had no plans of returning to her roots.

As they entered the club side, Big Sean’s voice entertained Sky’s ears. She nodded and bobbed to the beat. “I don’t fuck with you. You lil’ stupid ass bitch, I ain’t fuckin’ with you.”

“That’s my shit right there,” Sky continued bobbing and snapped her fingers.

“He dope, but I fuck with X and Kendrick Lamar. Hard. My niggas be on that real shit. Nah mean? Two different types of lyricists, but both saying a lot of something. Unlike these new cats who ain’t making nothing but unnecessary noise. Feel me?”

“X? Who is that? Is he someone new?” Sky’s age was showing.

“Nah, he been around a minute. DMX. Dark Man X. The movie Belly. I can’t believe you never heard of homie.”

“Oh, DMX,” Sky remembered as she flashed back to Brandon playing the rapper sometimes, but mostly, he listened to Tupac. “Yeah, I heard his music before, but I didn’t grow up on him. I wouldn’t know if he’s really dope or not.”

“You should check homie out, real talk. He that dude to pay attention to.”

“If you say so.”

“I know so. Are you ready for something to drink?”

“Uhmmm, I guess so,” Sky tittered.

“What’s funny?” he questioned with a grin. Sky’s coyness brought out the fun side in him. The invisible tie around Sincere’s neck loosened when he spent time with her. He could lay aside his boss mentality, sit back, relax, and chill. Something Sincere Richardson, a man who carried the weight of his dreams and goals, day-in and day-out, didn’t often do. Sincere had no plans of stopping until he achieved everything, he set out to accomplish.

“I told you, I’ve never been to a bar or club; let alone had alcohol. I don’t even know what to drink.
